  4. Hate to point out the obvious, but that ranking methodology is full of crap. At least one of the blogs supposedly more popular than Sales Machine has about 3 posts a month, many of which don’t even have comments. Sales Machine has many threads with 50 plus comments and many posts with pageviews in the hundreds of thousands. Clearly, the measurement methods in the ranking system are amenable to manipulation, because those blogs just aren’t getting that kind of traffic.

      I’m sorry you appear to be so offended by this list.

      I’ve seen several lists of the top sales blogs and they all have pretty much the same blogs, in various order, as the top sales blogs—give or take a few here and there.

      I chose to use BlogRank because it is the only one as far as I know that uses multiple criteria and is open about the criteria they use and how each blog ranks within those criteria.

      You have a major advantage over almost all of the other blogs on the list—your blog is on and promoted by one of the largest sites on the internet. Fortunately for you, your blog’s information—at least to some extent–can be isolated and used by these ranking sites. I also have a blog on a major site but the content on my blog on AllBusiness, which is a site considerably larger and draws about three times the traffic of BNET, can’t be isolated, so it can’t be ranked.

      I’d suggest the best thing is to be happy that your blog is recognized as one of the top blogs on the net and be thankful for the exposure.

      • I’m not unhappy about the list, I’m just pointing out that blogs without comments on their posts aren’t being read, regardless of what the “ranking” says.

        It’s pretty easy to jimmy up links on sites like Yahoo, etc. to get your SEO up — even if nobody is reading your stuff.

        By contrast, the only way to get comments is to actually have readers.

        Now, maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I interpret the term “top” — when applied to publications — as something that should have to do with readers, not with botcrawlers.

        But maybe that’s just me.

    • What? For stating the obvious? That some blogs cook the SEO to make it look like they’ve got readers when they don’t? That some sites are measuring SEO and not actual readership? This ain’t exactly breaking news.

      I think you’ve got one of the most useful and challenging sites on the net–and one that every seller no matter what they sell should have saved in their favorites. I’m not the least bit surprised that your site is number one by far in this list.

      (Just for full disclosure: Dave reviewed my book Creating a Million Dollar a Year Sales Income: Sales Success through Client Referrals and found it earned a five star rating—that, however, was two years ago and frankly, I’d recommend changingminds.com to every seller even if he’d given the book a one star rating)

  8. Hey Geoffrey…stop being a cry baby.

    I doubt you could get 1/10th of the the traffic you do today if you did not hide behind the BNET name.

    Do you think you are good enough to make the list without BNET. I don’t think so.

    I challenge you to step out into the world of blogging on your own and see what kind of following you could create.

    Then I think you’d spend more time trying to add value to your readers than crying about how you don’t get the recognition you think you deserve.

  9. LOL Craig – it’s true that you have to always be positive and helpful if you want good web vibes to come back to you.

    Actually for any of you who really want to invest in your social media marketing to improve results in these sort of listings and get better visibility, I’ve just started offering social media services… and my favorite group of sales pros get extra special care :)
